Equalization Payment Calculator

When married spouses separate, Ontario equalizes the growth in each spouse's net worth during the marriage under sections 4–5 of the Family Law Act. Enter each spouse's figures to estimate the net family property (NFP) and the equalization payment. (Applies to married spouses only.)

The matrimonial-home rule: if you owned the home you were living in at separation before you married, you cannot deduct its marriage-date value. Enter that marriage-date value in the “matrimonial home owned at marriage” field so the calculator removes it from your deduction. This often changes the result significantly.

Spouse A

Gifts/inheritances from others, personal-injury damages, etc. (if traceable).

Marriage-date value of a home still lived in at separation. Usually $0.

Spouse B
